In 2016, I was asked by Eothen Alapatt, the creative director of the Estate of J Dilla, to design an official J Dilla portable turntable - an essential item for any vinyl crate digger. This is definitely one of the coolest projects I've ever got to work on and as a lifelong fan of Dilla I was honoured to be asked, also this project really straddles the design and illustration sections of this site as I drew the design that appears on the turntable and its box.
The design on the player was inspired by a line in Dilla's The Diary album - "Bring yo weed, I got a story to tell", then the design of the box was made up of 28 lighter illustrations, each one inspired by a record Dilla has done production work on.
Also included in the record box was a 7 inch recording of J Dilla's "The Sickness" featuring Nas. I did the artwork for this too.
