In late 2019 I was asked to do another animation for Nike following the Air Plus Max animation from earlier in the year. This one was to mark the release of the βTime Capsule Packβ of five classic sneakers in colourways inspired by old Nike print ads and to chart the evolution of the company. I made the animation below which showed each of the shoes in a scene inspired by the story behind its creation. You can find a bit of a scene breakdown and shoe backstory under the animation. The music was created especially for the video by Decap.
Nike Air Force 1
Made popular in Harlem in the 80s following their release in 1982. The Kilgore Krew poster on the wall is an homage to Bruce Kilgore who designed the AF1 and the name of the ball player on the wall - Conor Fierane - is an anagram of Air Force One.
Nike Air Force One
Saved from discontinuation after a "Save The Air Force 1" campaign run by local sports shops in Baltimore in 1984. The framed photo in Bartosz's bangers is Nike founder Phil Knight.
Nike Air Max 1
Released in 1987 and inspired by the inside out architecture of the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Tinker Hatfield, the shoe's designer, was originally an architect and liked the idea of putting the inner workings of the shoe on display with the air bubble.
Nike Air Flight 89
A basketball sneaker and contemporary of the Air Jordan which was worn by legends like Scottie Pippen.
Nike Air Max Plus
An air cushioned running shoe introduced in 1998 invented by Floridian Sean McDowell - the original patterning was inspired by Florida's palm trees and sunset skies. Cameo alert : The guy selling cubanos is from the previous Air Max Plus video I did.
Nike React 270
Released in 2019 and the future of Nike sneakers. The motorway in the background is the M270 - named after the shoe and you can my future business headquarters in the background.
