This is a screen print I did for an exhibition at KK Outlet in London called "For Iraq and Syria" organised by Yasseen Faik. It was a show to raise awareness and money for refugees fleeing those two war torn countries. All the proceeds from the sales of the prints went to Salam LADC, an organisation working to provide food, heating and clothing to displaced Iraqis and Syrians and promote education among a growing number of children in informal settlements. 

When researching the journey that refugees make from Syria to camps like the one in Calais, I read that lots of people use smart phones to help them navigate their way across Europe. It struck me how daunting it must be when a person first plots the walking route from their home in Syria to a camp in Calais and the directions come up : 32 days, 12 hours - 3,845 km. My poster is a snapshot of this moment - when a refugee has decided that they have no other option but to leave their home and is coming to terms with the enormous and terrifying journey ahead of them.
