Boiler Room is a music broadcasting company that organise and live stream various music events round the world. Since December 2014 I've held the position of Art Director there and have personally designed almost every single flyer for the hundreds of shows we've put on, this is an ongoing list of some of my favourites.

Dimitri From Paris show, London, 2016. Lacking the resources to get a lobster and orchid at short notice, I created the still life scene on the flyer from a series of stock images. I also created a disco themed Boiler Room logo for the occasion. You can see a video of my design process here if you like ▼

Levelz, Manchester, 2016. Levelz are a 14 person rap/grime collective from Manchester. To represent the hyperactive and varied group I made an animated flyer where I represented each person with a different item that can be found in the most familiar and comforting of British institutions, a newsagent.▼

Non-animated version ▼

Rahaan, London, 2016. Rahaan is a disco DJ from Chicago. I made this flyer using one of his disco track edits and loads of found footage from 90s cable TV classic "The New Dance Show".  ▼

Discwoman, NYC, 2016. Discwoman are a collective from New York who exclusively promote female DJs and producers. They use a bold, futuristic aesthetic for a lot of their promo material so I created this space age animation for the flyer based on hi tech idents from 80s VHS tapes. ▼

Artwork for podcast with Discwoman, following the same futuristic ident theme. ▼

Oneohtrix Point Never, London, 2016. In 2016 Boiler Room screened a one hour long music video for Oneohtrix Point Never in collaboration with Warp Records and The Barbican. In it the camera snaked round back stage areas of the Barbican in a series of long, gliding takes. I wanted the artwork to have this same feeling of calm, constant movement. ▼

Mumdance podcast, London, 2015. A flyer for a podcast in which producer Mumdance would have a conversation with record label owner Robin Carolan. I thought it would be funny to make the flyer look like an iMessage. I took great care to get the little animations of the speech and thought bubbles correct and enlisted the help of the head of tech to assist me in finding the hidden iMessage sound on my mac. ▼

Deep Medi, London, 2015. In 2015 Errol Anderson, one of the programmers at Boiler Room persuaded Mala, the founder of Deep Medi records to bring one of his legendary dubstep nights to Boiler Room. I created an animated flyer that referenced the heavy rumbling bass sound that was a signature of their nights. ▼

Street Corner Music, LA, 2016. Animated flyer for LA beats label Street Corner music.  ▼

Donuts, Dissected, 2016. On the anniversary of the release of J Dilla's Donuts, Boiler Room's head of music, Raj Chaudhuri, gave a lecture where he deconstructed the album and the stories behind it. The lecture became a recorded podcast that was released on the Boiler Room site and I created a simple animated version of Donuts' iconic record cover for the podcast artwork.  You can listen to the podcast here.▼

Angel Ho, Cape Town, 2016.

DJ Firmeza, London, 2016. DJ from Lisbon, Portugal and a member of the Principé collective.

Chicago vs Detroit, 2015. In 2015, Boiler Room put on a series of day time and night time shows in Chicago and Detroit over a few days, this included a road trip up I-94 with a bunch of the artists performing at the shows. I made this video flyer for the event, cycling through the iconic daytime and nighttime skylines of each city. ▼

Majid Jordan show, Toronto, 2016. I went with an old school basketball annual feel for this flyer as it took place on NBA All Star Weekend. Everyone who attended was required to wear a jersey ▼

Erol Alkan residency, 2016. I went with a kind of 90s album cover look with this flyer. It was to promote a series of shows where Erol Alkan was coming in to our studio to play sets using vinyl records. The concept was that rather than his mixing being filmed, the camera would just film the record cover of the track being played. ▼

Trash Talk, Los Angeles, 2016. Flyer for a punk show we did in partnership with GoPro, I drew the illustration and custom lettering on the flyer. ▼

Anderson Pak, London, 2016 ▼

Terrace Martin, New York, 2016.  I took a load of reference from Blue Note sleeves for this jazz show artwork. I liked the way they cropped images of musicians into shapes, so I used the border to show a picture of Terrace, with the flat colour centre of the flyer encroaching on him. I hoped to mimic the way the Blue Note sleeves made musicians look like they were straining to burst out of a tight space. ▼

Nanook of the North, Gdansk, 2016 ▼
